film festival activity design

adventure uncovered inspires and motivates outdoor enthusiasts to take positive action towards the health of our planet and its people.

For their 2020 film festival, I developed a low-tech interactive to help them crowdsource top UK adventuring tips from attendees during their season of events. The interactive needed to be light, so that it could travel around the UK and be easily installed at each venue. Ideally, it also needed to be tactile to contrast the primarily screen-based experience of the film festival, - and it needed to be environmentally friendly, in keeping with Adventure Uncovered’s sustainable ethos.

The solution was to create an oversize hand-painted map of the United Kingdom, directly onto which attendees could stitch their recommendations to create a ‘tapestry of tips’. The tags were made of recycled scrap card and I joined the first festival to have a go at stitching the tags onto the canvas myself. It was so wonderful to be meet so many people passionate about the great outdoors.

Here is my blog post for Adventure Uncovered about the original map and the launch of its digital version.
